Merry Christmas!

Let Us Adore Him Christmas Painting by Richard Lance Russell
This is Richard's newest piece. The original is for sale at the City Creek Deseret Book Gallery in Salt Lake City. I love this depiction of the Nativity, especially the tenderness with which Joseph is leaning over and comforting the baby. As a mother, Mary's adoration of the Christ child and the way she is holding his hand bring to mind how it felt gazing at my own children. The piece really captures one of those lovely little moments in family life.

The piece below was finished last month, but I didn't get it posted here on the blog. It's such a fun, elegant little addition to the Shakespeare paintings:

Solo Exhibition This Summer!

Richard has been invited to do a solo exhibition of his work for the Utah Shakespeare Festival. I have seen the paintings, and they are spectacular. The paintings will be hanging upstairs and down in the Randall Jones Theatre, so make sure you see them all! In addition, prints of the originals will be available in the gift shop there.

It has been a wonderful process so far. The USF is fantastic to work with. The organization is full of professionals and everything they do is done well, from the costumes to the paperwork. We have enjoyed getting to know them and being privileged to work with them.

The Festival's 2012 season is full of magnificent shows this year: The Merry Wives of Windsor, Les Miserables, and Hamlet, to name just a few.

Come, on! Hamlet! At the Utah Shakespeare Festival?! Nobody should miss that!

I could rave about the Festival, as Richard and I have been going for years (both before we met and since). The VERY BEST production of The Taming of the Shrew I have ever seen was performed there. In fact, I miss that production whenever I see the play now. It is a reminder of the magic of the stage: how a particular cast, a particular costumer, and countless others can come together with a particular director's vision and create something amazing. And if you aren't there, you'll never get the chance to see it. So GO! You won't regret it.

Richard's work will be there during the whole season, so whichever plays you're attending, be sure to stop over in the Randall Jones Theatre and check it out.
